Jakarta, the largest city in Indonesia, is known for its immense skyline, with more than 100 buildings over 200-metres tall. Jakarta continues to grow both in population and in the development of its urban infrastructure. Of note is the city’s Mass Rapid Transit project which aims to increase the public transport system’s passenger capacity, thereby reducing traffic congestion. This project features the North – South Line: phase 1, now operational, connects Lebak Bulus to Bundaran HI; phase 2A (PID
193818002), currently under construction, consists of seven underground stations over 5.8km from Bundaran HI to Kota.

Another project that aims to improve Jakarta’s connectivity is the Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Railway (PID 201399002). This will be the first high-speed railway project in Indonesia and Southeast Asia, with a track length of just under 145km. Initially delayed by COVID, construction of the railway, stations and their surrounding areas will see an increase in activity and development, which will ideally lead to increased opportunities in the residential sector.

Surabaya, a port city on the Indonesian island of Java, is the second-largest city in Indonesia, after Jakarta. When it comes to residential development in Surabaya, the Kampung Improvement Program has seen upgrades to housing areas’ physical infrastructure, including roads, footpaths, drainage canals, water supply and sanitation. The program sees the continued planning, design and supervision of construction work that supports the housing needs of Surabaya’s population.
