CASE STUDY
Haddarco Construction, a Melbourne-based building firm, has built a strong reputation for delivering high-quality, complex projects across commercial, education and community sectors. From its modest beginnings, the company has steadily expanded, earning recognition for its reliability and commitment to excellence.
At the core of Haddarco’s success is its unwavering focus on project management and client relationships. This hands-on approach has enabled the company to grow without compromising its standards. Over the years, Haddarco has demonstrated a keen ability to adapt to evolving industry demands, positioning itself for sustainable growth and continued success.
“Our first commercial project was in 1990, working on retirement villages and aged care homes for the Department of Human Services. From there, we naturally evolved into communal spaces and government work, which is about 60% of what we do today,” Abdullah Haddara, Director & Head of Operations at Haddarco, said.
“Over the last 10 years, education facilities started coming in one by one, all through word of mouth. It really comes down to how we put ourselves forward—open communication, understanding client needs and a strong safety record.”
The Glenn Murcutt-designed Australian Islamic Centre in Newport, Victoria, delivered in 2016, stands as Haddarco’s flagship project—a landmark achievement that showcases the firm’s ability to deliver architecturally significant and culturally sensitive builds.
Collaborating closely with one of Australia’s most celebrated architects, Haddarco brought to life a complex vision that blends spiritual purpose with contemporary design, cementing its reputation for craftsmanship, precision and respect for community-led projects.
“It earned global recognition and gave people confidence that we could handle complex, high-profile builds. From there, it just built momentum.”
In addition to the iconic Australian Islamic Centre, Haddarco has completed a range of significant projects, including the Genazzano FCJ College, Darul Ulum Academy, and ICOM Primary School Extension. The firm has also delivered notable educational facilities like Lilydale High School and Yarra Valley Grammar, as well as community-driven projects such as the St. Mary’s Primary School East and ICOM Library & Canteen. Commercial ventures, including the Bourke Street Office Refurbishment and SAE Institute, highlight Haddarco’s diverse capabilities and commitment to quality.
Over the years, Haddarco has maintained a consistent and measured approach to adopting new technologies. Rather than rushing into trends, the company takes a strategic path—testing tools gradually, integrating them project by project, and ensuring the team is fully on board. This mindset has allowed Haddarco to evolve with the industry while maintaining stability in operations.
From introducing comprehensive construction management software to using platforms like Pengurus Utama BCI for business development and market insight, Haddarco’s approach ensures that every new tool genuinely supports long-term growth and team performance.
Haddarco has solidified its place as a key player in the Melbourne construction market. With an extensive portfolio and a strong network of industry partners, the company remains competitive in a rapidly evolving sector. The firm strategically positions itself in high-growth areas, focusing on projects that align with its core expertise and values.
Haddarco is solidifying its position in the construction industry with a strategic focus on sustainability, client relationships, and technological innovation. The company’s commitment to green building practices and environmentally responsible materials aligns with rising industry demands for sustainability.
Equally central to its success is a client-centric approach, with Haddarco consistently delivering projects on time and within budget, building long-term partnerships in the process.
“You have to be adaptable to succeed, especially when you can’t control the environment, but your principles must remain constant. During COVID, we didn’t chase work or undercut—we focused on doing one project right. That mindset helped us grow through uncertainty. Now, it’s about being strategic, preparing, and staying ready,” Haddara said.
“Our team is the backbone of the business—many have been with us for 10-15 years. Growth means staying current, and technology is part of that. When we introduced new construction software during COVID, we rolled it out gradually, and now the team’s confident, even teaching me how to use it.”
The company is also expanding into new markets and diversifying its project types, strengthening its industry presence and resilience.
Haddarco’s current focus is on the education sector, with several school projects underway, ranging from $10 million to $18 million in value. Two key initiatives are particularly notable, as they involve Early Contractor Involvement (ECI), allowing for close collaboration with clients to prepare for the next phases. These projects include both expansions of existing schools and the development of new campuses.
Technology investments further streamline operations, enhancing project management efficiency.
Through these strategic initiatives, Haddarco continues to grow its market presence and attract high-value projects, ensuring its competitive edge in a rapidly changing sector.
To stay ahead in the competitive construction landscape, Haddarco has embraced new technologies, including BCI LeadManager. Since adopting BCI LeadManager in 2019, the platform has been instrumental in streamlining the company’s business development and project tracking efforts.
“Like any businessperson, you’ve got to have a growth mindset—and tools like BCI LeadManager are a big part of that. It gives us visibility on what’s coming down the pipeline, from design through to documentation. Even if you don’t win a project, you gain market insights. You see trends, you understand why things are happening. I can see tenders coming through, tenders being awarded—it all helps build a picture of where the market’s heading. It’s definitely a big tool for us.”
Haddarco leverages LeadManager to streamline its project management processes, enhancing workflow efficiency and enabling more effective tracking and coordination across all phases of its operations.
“Networking and social interaction are essential parts of business,” says Haddara.
“It’s about staying visible and involved in the conversation. With BCI LeadManager, we can track projects from the design and documentation stages, keeping ourselves informed and ensuring we’re not out of sight or out of mind. At the very least, we gain insight into market trends and understand why things are happening.”
For Haddarco, BCI LeadManager provides a clear advantage when forecasting market developments. Haddarco specficially uses LeadManager for:
“Looking at the data, I can see the number of tenders coming through and being awarded, along with projects in the development stages. This helps us piece together a formula of sorts—a comprehensive view of what’s ahead,” he adds. “It’s a critical tool for business development, enabling us to stay on top of trends and identify new opportunities.”
In the dynamic construction industry, identifying opportunities often means looking beyond the obvious. Haddara reflects on how he uses BCI LeadManager to uncover hidden potential in projects that others may overlook.
“Unfortunately, some projects get abandoned—but I see those as potential opportunities. I use LeadManager to identify those abandoned projects and llook into why they were abandoned and whether it’s something we can step into, help complete, or even take on as a personal development.
“These little insights—keeping an eye on the market, properties, and trends—give me a broader perspective. Sometimes it just confirms what I’m already thinking. It’s about picking up those little gems along the way.”
As the construction industry continues to evolve, Haddarco remains committed to leveraging cutting-edge technologies like LeadManager to drive business growth and operational excellence. By combining traditional expertise with modern tools, the company is well-positioned for future success.
