BCI’s transport sector snapshot report in Australia captures the total number and value of active projects across the country, as of February 2024.

Transport Sector Project Analysis

As reported by BCI, since 2022 there has been a decline in the number of design applications submitted in the transport sector across Australia. Between 2022 and 2023, there was over a 20% drop in the number of applications, while the number of applications approved also decreased by just over 6% from the previous year.

Australia’s transportation industry, as of February 2024, has just 327 active construction projects, but these total an impressive 288 billion AUD. The vast majority of this total (73.82%) can be attributed to projects in their infancy, at the Concept stage. Meanwhile, the number of active projects in the transport sector are quite evenly spread across the various stages of construction, from Concept through to Design & Documentation, Pre-Construction and Construction.

Looking at the projects broken down by state, we can see that QLD/NT/Other Territories have the largest total value of projects, with just 99 projects worth an overwhelming 170.24 billion AUD. This is more than triple the next highest total value of projects which belongs to the 86 projects in NSW/ACT, worth just over 55.37 billion AUD.
