BCI’s transport sector snapshot report in New Zealand captures the total number and value of active projects across the country, as of February 2024.

Transport Sector Project Analysis

As reported by BCI, since 2022 there has been a steady climb in the number of design applications approved in the transport sector across New Zealand. The number of construction commencements, having hit a low point in 2022, saw a huge 266.67% increase between 2022 and 2023. 

New Zealand’s transport sector, as of February 2024, has 150 active construction projects totalling just over 20 billion NZD. The majority of this total value (62.57%) can be attributed to projects in their infancy, at the Concept stage, while almost half (46%) of the total number of projects are also at this early planning phase. 

Breaking these projects down by location, the Northern Region of New Zealand has the largest total number of projects (74), and unsurprisingly, the largest total value at approximately 10.49 billion NZD. Despite having the smallest number of projects (32), the Southern Region has the second highest total value at almost 5.48 billion NZD.
